Anjeer ka ped is famous for its nutritious properties. You can eat it directly or use it in different recipes, desserts, and other Indian sweets. Rich in anti-oxidants, anjeer cures iron deficiency in the body. It is also helpful in constipation and lowering blood pressure.

Propagating Anjeer ka ped
If you are thinking about how to grow Anjeer ka ped at home, there are two ways to do it.
From Seeds
Soak Anjeer Tree seeds in lukewarm water for one day before sowing in the soil, as it will increase the chances of germination. Sow them in a pot filled with well-draining soil. Water well and keep Anjeer ka ped at a spot with plenty of bright but indirect light.
From Cuttings
Take a 10-12-inch cutting from the healthy branch of any Anjeer Tree. Remove the lower leaves and plant them in a container filled with well-draining soil. Water well and keep Anjeer ka ped cutting in a sunny spot, and water regularly. You can transplant it in the garden when it grows 3-4 feet tall.

Choosing a Container for Anjeer Plant
If you want to grow Anjeer ka ped in a pot, then go for a 12-18 inches container. This will serve well for 1-2 years. Depending on the growth of anjeer ka ped, you may have to re-pot it again in 1-2 sizes bigger pot than the old one, once in 2-3 years.
Requirements for Growing Anjeer Tree
Sunlight
Anjeer tree is a sun-loving plant and performs best under plenty of sunlight. Choose a location with a minimum of 5-6 hours of bright and direct sunlight daily.
Remember, the more sunlight anjeer plant gets, the better it will be for its growth.
Soil
Anjeer ka ped grows best in well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter. You can use organic potting mix or loamy clay soil rich in compost or well-rotted manure. Moreover, the pH of the soil should be within 6-8.
Water
Anjeer tree needs regular watering as the scarcity may lead to water stress, causing yellowing of leaves. Since trees grown in a container dries out quicker, so keep the soil moist but not water clogged.
The best way to check watering needs is by poking the finger one and a half inches deep in the topsoil to check if it feels dry; water it thoroughly until it comes out of the drainage holes.

Anjeer Plant Care
Fertilizer
To supplement the growth of anjeer ka ped and fruit yield, fertilize with well-rotted compost or manure during early summer. Alternatively, you can also use a liquid fertlizer, diluted to 1/2 of its strength, once in 4-6 weeks. Do refer to the label for dosage and instructions.
Pruning
Anjeer plant needs light pruning to maintain its shape and allow new growth. You can prune it after the fruit ripens during summer. For young anjeer ka ped, remove the sucker from the rootstock using a sharp knife. Once it matures enough, prune only dead and broken stems from time to time.
Dormancy
The tree goes into dormancy in winter. At this time, do not water the plant daily. Keep it safe from chilly winds, and ensure it gets plenty of air circulation.
Pests and Diseases
Anjeer ka ped can be attacked by spider mites, whiteflies, or aphids. You can protect it by spraying a jet of water. Spread wood ash at the base to stop ants from climbing the tree.
Use neem oil spray, but don’t use it if the temperature is too hot, as it can damage the leaves.

Harvesting Anjeer Ka Ped
Anjeer trees can take 3-5 years from planting to bear fruits. The harvest time is between June and September, but in tropical regions, it can bear fruit throughout the year as well.
Pick the fruits when they are tender and soft to the touch. The juicy and ready ones have a deep pink to red outer covering with a fresh fragrance. Use a knife to take the fruits off the branch to ensure you don’t harm anjeer plant in the process.
