Here are the best types of Almonds you can grow in India

What is Indian Almond Tree?

The tree is native to parts of Asia, Australia, the Pacific, and Madagascar. It bears white blooms on long slender racemes a few years after the plantation.  As these drupe fruits mature, the color turns from green to red, to brown, to yellow. The taste of these nuts is somewhat similar to regular almonds.

How to Propagate Indian Almond Tree?

One of the most popular ways is to propagate it via seeds.

  • Collect the seeds from the fruits of the tree.
  • Sow them in a well-draining potting mix.
  • Water well and provide ample bright, indirect light.
  • The seeds will germinate in 3-5 weeks.

As growing the plant from seeds will be time-consuming, it will be a good idea to get a well-grown plant from a nursery.

Growing Requirements of Indian Almond Tree

Sunlight

The Indian almond tree does best in 5-6 hours of full sun. Keep the plant in a sunny spot while it is in a pot and transfer it to a location in the garden that gets plenty of light throughout the day.

Soil

The tree can do well in a wide range of soil types, as long as it is well-draining. Although sandy-loamy soil is best for its growth.

Watering

The plant does well in moist soil. However, do make sure you are not overwatering the plant. Water it when the topsoil feels a bit dry to the touch. Once the plant will be established, it will take care of its watering needs on its own.

Climate

The tropical to subtropical climate of India is perfect for its growth. This tree does well in the temperature range of 25–35 C.
