The tree is native to India and Southeast Asia. It grows round fruits with a hard outer shell and soft inner flesh having a sweet and sour taste.

According to a research, Kabit Fruit contains an innumerable amount of phytochemicals such as polyphenols, vitamins, saponins, coumarins, amino acids, tri-terpenoids, phytosterols, tannins, and tyramine derivatives. Kabit Fruit has several beneficial nutritional and medicinal properties. In the Indian traditional system of medicine, wood apple is known to cure diseases like dysentery, diarrhea, asthma, wounds, tumors, hepatitis, and cardiac debility  Kabit Fruit is also rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, and Vitamin C. Wood apple fruit is an enormous source of anti-oxidants and has the potential to scavenge free radicals in the human body.

Another study states that Kabit Fruit chutney is rich in ascorbic acid, phenolic content, and antioxidant activity with content ranging from 2.2 mg/100g, 143.7 mg/g, and 65.4% respectively.

Sunlight

Kabit Fruit grows best in a spot where it can get direct sunlight all day long. This will help it to achieve good height and grow plenty of fruits. Do not transplant/grow the plant at a location that gets shade for the most part of the day.

Soil

The tree is not at all fussy about the growing medium and will thrive in any type of soil. To boost its growth, add vermicompost and cow dung manure at the time of planting. After it grows up to 3-4 feet tall, it will require no maintenance at all.

Water

Water Kabit Fruit tree only when the topsoil feels a little dry to the touch. You have to do it till the plant grows to about 3-4 feet. After that, it will take care of its own.

Fertilizer

If you have used cow dung manure, compost, and organic matter in the growing medium at the time of planting, then the tree would grow just fine without any fertilizer.

Pruning

Remove dead, weak, and broken branches, especially after the harvesting of fruits. You can maintain its shape by giving it a nice trim.

Pest and Diseases

Kabit Fruit might get attacked by aphids and mites when it is young. Caterpillar may also bore into young fruits.  Use neem oil when the plant is young to prevent pest issues.

Harvesting Kabit Fruit

The tree starts bearing fruits after 6-8 years. In India, flowering occurs in April and May. Fruits are green at first, but their color slowly turns yellow after ripening. You can harvest the fruits in 1-2 years. The fruits fall on their own to the ground when they are fully ripe.
