It is really easy to grow these plants from seeds. If you are growing it in your garden for yourself, you can use methi seeds from your kitchen. All you have to do to propagate methi is to get some seeds from the kitchen and soak them in water overnight. Drain the water and spread the seeds on a tray, covering them with a damp cloth. Keep them covered until they sprout. The best thing about methi is they grow pretty quickly!

Requirements

  • Soaked and sprouted methi seeds
  • A netted basket/ strainer
  • Mineral water as per the need
  • Bucket/Bowl
  • Damp cloth

Procedure

  1. Firstly, take the methi dana sprouts and spread them evenly on the given strainer or netted basket. Make sure to choose one with small holes in it as there is a possibility of seeds falling off if it has bigger holes.
  2. Make sure that the strainer and bucket/ bowl you take fix into each other properly. The base of the strainer must touch the water surface in the bucket/bowl.
  3. Fill your bucket/ bowl with fresh water.
  4. Place the strainer on the top of the bucket/ bowl and cover it back with a damp cloth. You will find the roots developing out of the strainer in the next two-three days.
  5. Keep changing the water every alternate day to avoid the development of any kind of insects of algae.
  6. Once you see the leaves developing after two to four days, place your plants in a sunny spot for faster growth. Give them at least 4-5 hours of the morning daylight.
  7.  Methi will be ready to eat in the next 9-11 days. By this time, the leaves will reach up to a height of 4-6 inches in length.

  1. When you are growing the plant in water, make sure you are using mineral water, as it provides the necessary nutrients.
  2. If you do not have time to take care of the sunlight requirements of your plants, keep it under indirect sunlight rather than placing it in direct light.
  3. Keep the plant covered with a damp cloth. Do not let the fabric get dry, and keep on sprinkling water to it. A wet cloth will help in maintaining the humidity in the plants.
  4. You can also use a plastic container or another bowl to create greenhouse conditions for better growth of your plants.
