Tips to Keep a Christmas Tree Alive in Your Apartment

1. Pick a Healthy Tree

Choose a healthy tree with negligible or very few brown needles. Rub the hands on a few branches to check if they’re flexible. Also, cover it well to prevent the tree from air damage while taking it home.

2. Trimming the Trunk

You can consider your Christmas tree as a big cut flower. As the cut flower needs trimming from the bottom to absorb water, similarly, the Christmas tree trunk does.

Trimming the bottom trunk increases the water intake. Just trim half an inch of the bottom trunk before placing it in the water stand. Make sure to make a perpendicular cut instead of an oblique or V-shape.

Note: Trim the tree and immediately place it in the water to prevent clogging.

3. Location

The Christmas tree appreciates cool temperatures, so prefer a cool spot. A shady corner of the room would be an ideal choice. Do not place it near a window with direct sunlight.

4. Watering

Hydrating the tree regularly is the best way to keep the Christmas tree alive. The bottom end should be thoroughly submerged in the water.

5. Remove any Heat Source Around the Tree

Keeping the Christmas tree near a heater leads to the frequent drying of the tree, eventually reducing its life span. If the house is lacking a humid environment, you can also use a humidifier.

6. Switch off Decor Lights When Not in Use

The string or series of lights used for decoration purposes also contributes to drying as the bulbs get warm over time. So, always turn the lights off when you are leaving the room.
