What is Indoor Bamboo Plant?

Indoor bamboo is known for bringing good luck to homes according to Feng Shui. This ornamental and low-maintenance plant can grow in different light levels. The main attraction are its stalks that can be curled, braided, or swirled, as per your needs.

Sunlight

The lucky bamboo plant prefers bright and filtered light for the most part of the day. Though it can tolerate shade, however, it will affect its growth. Also, avoid keeping the plant in direct sunlight, as it can harm the leaves.

Watering

If you are growing lucky bamboo in water, change it every 6-7 days. Make sure the water is not mineral-laden, as the lucky bamboo is sensitive to chlorinated water.

For growing it in soil, water when the topsoil feels a bit dry to the touch.

Soil

Any well-draining and fertile soil with a slightly acidic pH will work wonders for indoor bamboo plant. You can also go for sandy-loamy or succulent potting mix.

Temperature and Humidity

The indoor bamboo plant performs best in the temperature range of 18-32 C.  Avoid keeping it near the heating vent, cold draft windows, and air conditioner.

Fertilizer

You don’t have to worry about feeding it as it will take care of on its own. If you want to boost the growth, use a balanced liquid fertilizer, diluted to half of its strength, once in 4-6 weeks. Do refer to the label for instructions.

Pests and Diseases

Mealybugs, aphids, and mites can sometimes attack the plant. Deter them off using liquid dish soap or neem oil solution.
