The leaves of this plant are reminiscent of the marijuana plant (Cannabis sativa), with five leaflets.  The purple flower clusters (panicles) bloom in midsummer and look like those of the butterfly bush.

According to a research, Nirgundi ka Paudha has antiandrogenic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, hepatoprotective, anxiolytic and mosquito repellant potential.
