There are two famous species of this genus Madhuca Indica (syn. Bassia latifolia) and Madhuca longifolia (syn.Brassica longifolia). These trees have a rough bark and exude a white milky sap when cut. In the right growing conditions, the tree can achieve an impressive height of 20-50 feet. Being native to tropical and hot places in India, Mahua ka Ped grows best in full sun.

Extensive studies show the presence of secondary metabolites like sapogenins, triterpenoids, saponins, flavonoids, and glycosides in the tree. Conventionally, it has been used to treat infections, wounds, rheumatism, heart disease, diabetes, and many other disorders.

Another study by the Agricultural Biochemistry Department, Egypt, states that mahua butter is rich in nutritional value, biological activities, and antioxidative properties. In consideration of potential utilization, detailed knowledge of the chemical composition, nutritional value, and industrial applications of mahua butter is of major importance.

Sunlight
