1. Do Not Water it Unnecessarily

People have a habit of doing Surya pooja in the morning and after completing it, they usually pour the remaining water back into the plant. This is not a good practice at all as the plant doesn’t need watering on daily basis.

Too much moisture will attract root rot, which may cause the death of the plant.

Water tulsi once in 2-4 days or when the topsoil feels a little dry to the touch.

2. Avoid Snipping Leaves Daily

People use tulsi leaves for pooja or for making tea. Harvesting the leaves of the plant daily will eliminate the essential foliage that it needs for survival and photosynthesis.

If you need the leaves on daily basis, then it would be a good idea to grow multiple plants together and take leaves from them once a week. This will give ample time to the plant to grow new ones.

Note: Do not take more than 1/4 of the total leaves of the plant in one go, Wait for 7-8 days before snipping the leaves again.

3. Ensure Proper Drainage

People in India often grow Tulsi in a cemented tower in the center of the garden or verandah, which has no option for draining excess water.

Do ensure that the container, pot, or space that you are using to grow tulsi has a drainage hole at the bottom to let the excess water out. This will save the plant from root rot.

4. Avoid Watering the Leaves

Spilling water on leaves and making them wet attracts fungal issues, which makes the plant grow slow or even die. Keep the foliage dry always.

5. Give it the Right Dose of Sunlight

For best growth, Tulsi needs plenty of warmth and light. Pick an East spot, which is also good from a religious point of view and will also provide morning sun exposure for 2-3 hours to the plant, while keeping it safe from the harsh afternoon sun.
