Besides, the fruit has various other productive uses in skin and health treatment. Mangoes are rich in vitamin C and fibers, which can help in maintaining cholesterol and gut health. Mangoes in India

India is the largest producer of Mango in the world. Moreover, it accounts for almost half of the total production of mangoes across the globe! There are many varieties of mangoes that are available throughout the country. Types such as Alphonso/Hapus, Dasheri, langra, Pairi, Badami, Chausa, Malda, Totapuri, Kesar are favorite among Indians. It produces mangoes not only for domestic use but exports the fruit to various other countries as well!


Climatic Conditions for Growing Mangoes

The tropical and subtropical climate of India makes a right home for growing mangoes. Deep, well-drained, porous alluvial or loamy soil, with a pH of 5.5 -7.5, is best for their cultivation. The ideal temperature should be around  24°-30° C. They can survive in areas with high and average rainfalls, though rainfall during the fruiting can be harmful. In addition to all this, Mangoes require dry and humid conditions to fruit. The period of growing Mangoes differs in different climatic zones in India. So, the cultivation time ranges from February to September.

Mangoes are produced in all parts of India, and almost all the states grow them for domestic use. However, the commercial cultivation takes place in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. Other states that grow Mango in India are Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana, Punjab, etc.

The largest Mango producing state in India is Uttar Pradesh. It produces mangoes from June- August. One of Mango’s significantly popular varieties, also the largest selling, Dusheri, comes from here. Uttar Pradesh, with its humid subtropical climate, is best suited for the production of mangoes. Furthermore, the Indo-Gangetic Plain is the heart that provides ideal water and soil conditions to the crop.

  1. Why haven’t you mentioned Gujarat. This state also produces sizeable amount of mangos of all variants every year. It is the 6th or 7th biggest mango production state of India.
