How To Grow Papaya from Papaya Seeds

You can plant Papaya in your garden, in large pots, or in grow bags! Here are some of the steps to grow papaya from papaya seeds!

1. Take the Seeds Out and Let them Dry

Get fresh and ripe papaya from the market.  After cutting the fruit, scoop out the seeds in the middle and spread them on a piece of tissue paper. Let them dry for a day in the sun.

2. Planting the Seeds

Take a medium-sized pot and fill it with a mix of regular garden soil amended with coco peat, compost, and organic matter. Take off 1-2 inches of topsoil and plant 4-6 seeds in the pot. Cover with a thin layer of soil and water well.

3. Locate the Pot in Bright and Indirect Light

That’s it. All you have to do now is to locate the pot where it gets bright and indirect light for the most part of the day. The seeds will germinate in 2-3 weeks.

Aftercare

  • Keep the soil moist and never let it dry out completely.
  • Once the seeds germinate, keep the healthiest seedling and discard the remaining ones. Remember, go with one plant per pot rule.
  • You will have to hand pollinate the plant for fruits.
  • The plant will start to bear fruits 11-14 months after germinating.
