Camphor Tree Information 

A Picture of a Camphor Tree would show that these are hardwood trees native to East Asia. These trees are famous for their strong fragrance and are used in traditional medicine and aromatherapy. They can grow up to 40 meters tall, and their leaves are glossy green in color. The bark of this tree is grey and rough in texture, and the wood has a vibrant grain pattern.

How to Propagate Camphor Tree 

• Propagation by Seeds: Collect the fresh Camphor Tree seeds from the camphor tree during the fall season. Soak the seeds in water for 24 hours to soften the outer seed coat. Sow the seeds in a well-draining potting mix and keep it in a warm and bright location. Keep the soil moist and wait for the seeds to germinate, which may take up to several weeks.
• Propagation by Cuttings: Take a 6-8 inch long Camphor Tree cutting from a healthy camphor tree, making sure to include some leaves and a node. Dip the cutting in rooting hormone powder and plant it in a pot with a well-draining potting mix. Keep the pot in a bright and warm location and mist the cutting regularly to keep it moist. In a few weeks, the cutting should begin to root and produce new growth.
• Propagation by Layering: Select a healthy branch from the camphor tree and make a small cut in the bark where you want the new roots to grow. Apply some rooting hormone powder to the cut and wrap the cut area with damp sphagnum moss. Cover the moss with plastic wrap and secure it in place with a rubber band. Wait for a few months until roots develop, then cut the branch from the mother plant and plant it in a pot with well-draining soil.

Requirements to Grow Camphor Tree 

Sunlight 

These trees require full sunlight to grow well. Camphor Tree should be planted in a location where they can receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight every day.

While they can tolerate some shade, prolonged periods of low light may cause the tree to grow slowly and produce fewer leaves and flowers. 

Soil 

Camphor Trees grow well in well-draining soils that are rich in organic matter. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. In India, they can be grown in a range of soils, including sandy loam, clay loam, and red soil.

However, the soil should be well-drained to prevent waterlogging, which can cause root rot. 

Water  

They require moderate watering, with the frequency of watering depending on the weather conditions and the soil type. In general, they should be watered deeply once a week during the growing season, and the soil should be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings.

Overwatering can cause root rot, so it is important to avoid waterlogging. 

Temperature  

Camphor Trees prefer warm temperatures and are hardy to USDA zones 9 to 11. They can tolerate temperatures ranging from 10°C to 35°C but grow best in temperatures between 20°C and 30°C. In India, they can be grown in most regions except in areas with high altitude or cold climates.

Camphor Tree Care 

Fertilizer
